Deadline April 23rd: Your Voice Needed to Protect Wetlands and Clean Water

Two years ago, a Supreme Court decision weakened the scope of wetland protections, and now the agency may take steps to further reduce wetland protections under the Clean Water Act. Loss of wetlands can increase drinking water pollution and flooding in communities, and harm the economy. You can submit public comments until April 23rd. Freshwater Future has made it easy for you to write to the U.S. EPA to preserve the Clean Water Act and protect our wetlands. Organizations are invited to co-sign Freshwater Future’s comments.

Take Action: We Need the Lake Erie Harmful Algal Bloom Forecast

The Lake Erie Harmful Algal Bloom (HABs) Forecast has provided the public and municipalities with critical information during the bloom season on where HABs are – and thus, how we must respond to protect public health. Now it is at risk of going away after probationary workers have been fired once again at federal agencies. This includes the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) employees that run the forecast model and warn water treatment plants about threats to drinking water. Request to your Senators and Representative to ensure GLERL has adequate staffing and funding to maintain the Lake Erie Algal Bloom Forecast – Use Freshwater Future’s online form to take action today!

Against All Odds: How Water Advocates Are Winning in 2025

As Earth Day approaches, we are celebrating how local advocates continue to carve out wins for our waters. From the Navajo Nation’s landmark water rights deal to grassroots wins to prevent privatization in New Jersey, communities are proving that local action leads to critical impact. States like New Mexico are stepping up where federal protections fall short and long-standing pollution battles—like Alabama’s Maxine Mine—are finally being won. These stories, covered in our new blog post, show that progress continues.
