Great Lakes States LIHWAP Report Card

The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is the first federal program that has extended aid to US residents who are struggling to pay their water bills. As a temporary COVID-19 pandemic relief measure, LIHWAP has been rolled out differently in each state and is set to expire at the end of 2023. Freshwater Future compared the success of LIHWAP in each of the Great Lakes states by evaluating how many households have been served over the program period and other metrics found on the LIHWAP Data Dashboard. Many advocates and representatives worked hard to secure LIHWAP funding at the federal level. Freshwater Future has worked to ensure states are distributing these funds to those who need it most.
