Post-Election: The Work Continues

In the wake of the U.S. election results, many of our minds are on where this leaves our communities and our Great Lakes. For nearly 30 years, Freshwater Future has worked with communities to ensure our waters are safe, clean, affordable, and accessible. Working together, we addressed many challenges, such as pollution, climate change, and lead in drinking water, and found solutions at the local, state, and federal levels. No matter who won the election, Freshwater Future is committed to continuing this work. The policies we want to enact and the world we want to inhabit are ours to create, and now more than ever – we need you. If you want to know more about how Freshwater Future is moving forward, please read our Director’s Message and our newsletter below.

The Voices Newsletter is Ready for You! Read Now

In the latest edition of Freshwater Future’s Voices Newsletter, we discuss the progress of our efforts and the ongoing challenges in the Great Lakes Region from the local to the national level. You can read the newsletter online here!

Mindfulness & Movement for Post-Election Stress

This election season has been intense, with several battleground states in the Great Lakes region. We are sharing a healing practice of trauma-informed mindfulness, as a tool to help with post-election stress. The practice is led by Jonathan Relucio, a skilled practitioner of yoga, mindfulness, and an experienced advocate for social justice. In this recording Jonathan walks us through the protocols to address anxiety and depression in the body and the mind. While we had our final Mindfulness & Movement session for 2024 last week, keep an eye on this weekly newsletter to sign up for sessions as they renew in the new year!

Your Voice is Needed! Improve Equity in Minnesota’s Drinking Water Fund

Water utilities face many challenges to keep Minnesota’s drinking water safe, clean, and affordable. The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program is Minnesota’s major funding mechanism to help water utilities afford critical water infrastructure projects. The program is outdated and requires improvements to ensure once-in-a-lifetime infrastructure funds reach the communities with the most need. The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority is taking public comment on its annual plan to fund projects across the state. Add your voice to our suggested recommendations and submit by November 18th, 2024.
