Training Webinar: Your Voice Needed on Michigan Drinking Water Fund

Michiganders – Come and prepare for a rare advocacy opportunity! Every three years, the Michigan Dept. of the Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) updates its criteria that decide which communities qualify for grants and loan forgiveness for drinking water projects. Join Freshwater Future at our final training webinar on Monday May 19, 12:00-12:30 pm (ET). We will review what’s happening, what’s at stake, and then spend time preparing your own comments to give at the remaining EGLE listening session. Can’t attend? Training materials, including a recording, slides, and handout, are available here.

May 29th @ 11:30 ET

Join Our Monthly Mindfulness + Movement Practice for Water Protectors!

Each month, we gather for a wellness practice called Mindfulness and Movement to help you reduce stress and re-energize your water work. Please join us for our next session, Thursday, May 29th at 11:30 am (Eastern), led by Jonathan Relucio, a mindfulness expert with 20+ years of experience. Register to join our next 45-minute session and share the invite with your colleagues and friends!

Deadline Approaching: Stop Ontario’s Bill 5

Canadians – Your voice is needed to tell Provincial leaders to stop Bill 5, which will create special economic zones to allow the government to bypass laws and regulations, and open the door to mining projects in the Ring of Fire. The mineral-rich area in northern Ontario is targeted by government leaders as the key to economic expansion while sidelining First Nations during the consultation process. If passed, Bill 5 would repeal the Endangered Species Act, and eliminate safeguards that protect water sources and indigenous sovereignty. Freshwater Future’s partner, Environmental Defense, a Canadian non-profit organization, has made it easy for you to submit comments using this formDon’t wait! Submissions are due tomorrow, Saturday, May 17.
