This week, the Trump Administration indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has contributed to securing and protecting civil rights for over 50 years. Freshwater Future is concerned about the direct impacts on civil rights and how it may contribute to discouraging nonprofits from speaking out on issues.People’s rights to live, love, vote, work, study, travel, and simply be themselves, free from hate and discrimination, must be protected, just as we work to protect the human right to water.
We know we are stronger together, and we continue to speak out on behalf of the people and communities we serve. Using our voices is a foundation of Freshwater Future’s work. We will continue to take positions and voice our concerns.
Recently, we have witnessed unprecedented weakening and rollback of environmental regulations, gutting of federal agencies, and drastic cuts in federal funding that impact the health of people, communities, and our drinking water and surface waters. Freshwater Future is committed to this work, and we will continue to provide you opportunities to share your opinions with decision makers.
If we choose silence now, who will be there to speak up when the attacks are on our organizations? Now is the time to stand in solidarity.
Have you or your organization been impacted by recent attacks on civil rights? Has it impacted your community work or water work? We’d like to learn more. Please share your story here with us.
Standing Together,
Jill Ryan, Executive Director
