Take Action – Tell Your Senators to Protect Nonprofits in the Budget & Tax Bill

As the U.S. Senate considers its response to the House of Representatives’ budget and tax bill, constituents like you have the power to influence their positions and votes. Your voice is needed now to help protect nonprofit organizations. Call the Congressional Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to contact your two U.S. Senators and ask each of them to:

  1. Reject any limits on charitable donations made by individuals and corporations
  2. Preserve and strengthen charitable tax incentives

Learn more here about why incentivizing donations are critical not just for nonprofit organizations to succeed, but for all the individuals and communities they serve. Remember to call as soon as possible – Senate Majority Leader Thune hopes to bring it to a vote as soon as next week.

We break down what is missing from the current conversation and why community voices must be at the center of any water-based future! Read the full blog post here!

Chiefs of Ontario and Allies Rally Against Proposed Bill C-5

Excluded from speaking in committee, providing consultation, or sitting in study discussions on a proposed federal bill, the Chiefs of Ontario led hundreds to protest the Building Canada Act or Bill C-5 in Ottawa on Tuesday. This undemocratic legislation gives the prime minister and cabinet unprecedented authority to override laws, rewrite environmental regulations, and ignore the Constitutional rights of First Nations for the sake of fast-tracking major infrastructure projects. The Chiefs of Ontario are building a national coalition to push back on this undemocratic, rushed process and bill that shuts out indigenous voices while pursuing projects in the “national interest.” As Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler said at the rally, “We are here today to tell Mark Carney and his government that if you pass this bill … it will be a long, hot summer.”
