New! Digital State-by-State Guide to the Great Lakes Compact
Industries such as huge data centers, fish farms, and paper mills are attracted to the Great Lakes region for their developments, seeking to use staggering amounts of fresh drinking water each day. When these projects come to a community, residents may have some questions and concerns, such as: Is this large water withdrawal regulated? How much water can be consumed without a permit? Freshwater Future’s new digital guide can help! It includes information about each Great Lake state’s laws and regulations under the Great Lakes Compact in an easy-to-read format.

New York Residents: Urge Your Representatives to Pass the Lead Pipe Replacement Act
New York residents, your voice is needed. Contact your state legislators and urge them to pass the Lead Pipe Replacement Act before the session ends on June 4th! No amount of lead in drinking water is safe, and this bill will ensure that all homes, regardless of income, can afford to have their lead pipes replaced. Send a quick message to your state legislators and use your voice today!
Michigan Residents: Support Dam Safety and Affordable Energy
Consumer’s Energy, a major energy utility in Michigan, wants to sell all 13 of its unprofitable in-state hydropower dams for just $13. Communities around these dams, ratepayers, and Michigan taxpayers will ultimately be on the hook for increased rates and any damage resulting from failure of these aging, costly dams.
All Michiganders have the opportunity to use their voice right now and ask the state regulator to oppose this sale. Freshwater Future has prepared instructions and talking points to help residents submit comments directly to the Michigan Public Service Commission. Submit your comment as soon as possible, preferably by May 31.
