Detroit River Site Collapse Community Response Meeting Calls for Action

A community meeting in response to the recent seawall collapse into the Detroit River hosted by Sierra Club and several other environmental activists groups took place December 12th at Cass Commons. During this convening several government officials including Rep. Rashida Tlaib and State Senator Stephanie Chang, as well as a number of environmental activists proposed reformed legislation and policy change to prevent incidents like this one from recurring.

Despite the Michigan environmental officials report of the collapse posing no threat to public health, community members still had resounding concerns about Michigan’s officials’ slow response to the collapse.  Freshwater Future’s Alexis Smith who was also in attendance was quoted in an article by one the many media outlets, WDET 101.9 FM
