Make Your Voice Heard: Canadian Government Seeks Public Input on the Canada Water Agency by March 1st

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called on the ministers of the departments of environment, climate change, agriculture, and agri-food to create the Canada Water Agency. Its goal is to “work together with the provinces, territories, Indigenous communities, local authorities, scientists, and others to find the best ways to keep our water safe, clean and well-managed.” The Canadian Government is currently seeking comments on issues being considered in the Toward the Creation of a Canada Water Agency discussion paper until March 1, 2021.

Permits for Proposed Enbridge Pipeline Tunnel Approved by Michigan Agency

Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) recently approved Enbridge’s initial permits for its construction of a $500 million tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac that is raising eyebrows since Governor Whitmer previously ordered the shutdown of the pipeline due to easement violations. Freshwater Future does not support the construction of a new tunnel due to environmental concerns based on the company’s appalling record of spills and maintenance issues, including the spill in Marshall, Michigan on the Kalamazoo River, as well as tribal concerns about potential cultural site violations.

We are Water Protectors Receives Prestigious Award

‘We Are Water Protectors’ recently received the Randolph Caldecott medal for most distinguished American picture book for Children. Author Carole Lindstrom and illustrator Michaela Goade elevate the dedication and leadership of Indigenous communities who act as an important voice to protect water quality and safeguard against the monetization of water. Biden Reverses Past Administration’s Course on Climate Change

In the wake of the last administration’s orders to roll back dozens of environmental policies, the Biden administration is aggressively stepping in to reverse regulations on climate change. The new approach includes a significant transition away from fossil fuel production and consumption to greener energy alternatives to protect our planet for generations to come.
