Clean Water for All

Across the Great Lakes states and beyond, organizations are coming together to defend federal laws that protect our water from contamination. Organized in response to the Trump administration’s June 2017 proposal to eliminate key federal protections for U.S waters and the Great Lakes, the Clean Water For All campaign has been working hard to ensure that community stakeholders are informed and engaged on this matter and making every effort to keep the current provisions in place.

Freshwater Future is proud to lead campaign efforts here in Michigan. We have been actively encouraging our supporters and allies across the region to uniformly act in opposition to the administration’s removal of laws that keep our water safe and clean. Freshwater Future has also made great use of our partnerships to help residents connect to their elected representatives through  petitions, email campaigns, and social media. For example, we helped generate support for Senator Cardin’s (D-MD) Low-Income Water Consumer Assistance Programs Act of 2017, which would create a pilot program of grants to municipalities and local or regional utilities to help low-income households afford their water, wastewater, and stormwater bills. Freshwater Future also solicited sixteen organizational signatures opposing the delay of the 2015 Clean Water Act.
