The Federation is convening a meeting in June between U.S. EPA Region 5 Acting Administrator David Ullrich and representatives from several Great Lakes environmental groups. The intent of the meeting is to proactively develop ways in which new water standards for toxic pollutants can be applied to better protect wildlife. These standards, which set criteria for regulation of 29 water pollutants, were agreed upon by U.S. EPA and the Great Lakes states in 1995. The standards are unique to the Great Lakes and are intended to restore, maintain, and protect the waters of this valuable and sensitive ecosystem.
