Pass the Paddle
Boaters and state and national officials are “passing the paddle” from state to state along rivers forming state boundaries or flowing from state to state. The paddle’s journey began on April 1, 2000 and will visit all 50 states and rivers shared by Canada and Mexico over seven months. The program, part of Rivers 2000, is expected to result in 50 new citizen grassroots organizations being formed that are dedicated to river protection and restoration. In addition, 100 or more existing river groups are anticipated to expand or be re-dedicated.
