Tracey is an avid sailor whose love of the water dates back to childhood, and she’s been instrumental in helping to protect the sensitive dunes in Michigan’s Kalamazoo River watershed from large scale development. She’s thoughtful and quiet, she has a special talent for taking stock of situations and developing effective strategies to address them.
Tracey is a member of the Michigan Advisory Council of the Environmental Law and Policy Center and has served on the board of the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance for over a decade. The group is currently fighting a proposed marina 18’ deep and 1500’ long that would require moving more than 160,000 tons of sand—a project that would destroy the fragile hydrology of the interdunal wetlands.
Freshwater Future commends Tracey for her dedication to protecting the Saugatuck Dunes, and we are proud to honor her as a Freshwater Hero.
