Even more striking is the astounding impact these leaders have on our communities, our waters and our region. Without fail, citizens such as Mary Jo Cullen take up the work of protecting their local community waters because they understand the vital importance of these resources for our economy, way of life and health. These leaders provide seemingly unlimited energy and passion for their causes without asking for recognition or compensation, because it is in their hearts and it is the right thing to do. Today I salute Mary Jo and all of the thousands of citizens out there taking time from your busy lives to make the world and our communities better places for each of us. Thank You! |
Freshwater Future builds effective community-based citizen action to protect and restore the water quality of the Great Lakes basin. We work toward this goal by providing financial assistance, communications and networking assistance and technical assistance to citizens and grassroots watershed groups throughout the Great Lakes basin. Through these efforts we work with over 1,800 grassroots watershed groups and citizens to protect and restore the rivers, lakes and wetlands in their communities.
