The Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat News is the newsletter of the Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund, published five times per year. The News is intended to provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas among citizens and organizations working to protect aquatic habitats in the Great Lakes Basin.

Director’s Notes: Individual Actions

Each individual action we take makes a difference in both our local communities and our Great Lakes community. As this issue highlights, individual voices can and do make an impact. Whether through thousands demanding no increase in pollution to Lake Michigan or one community taking action by recycling, our actions matter.

I know each of you, with the important work you have undertaken in your community, understands this.

When you tire of encouraging individual citizens, decision-makers and corporations to act wisely with respect to our waters, I hope you will be inspired by the actions represented here.

For more inspiration I also hope you will join us at this year’s Grassroots Symposium for in-person learning, sharing and encouragement.

We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by a thousand invisible threads, and along these sympathetic fibers, our actions run as causes and return to us as results

The Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund builds effective community-based citizen action to protect and restore the water quality of the Great Lakes basin. We work toward this goal by providing financial assistance, communications and networking assistance and technical assistance to citizens and grassroots watershed groups throughout the Great Lakes basin. Through these efforts we work with over 1,800 grassroots watershed groups and citizens to protect and restore the rivers, lakes and wetlands in their communities. The Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
