Calendar of Events

Wisconsin Wetlands Association (WWA) and the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS)-Wisconsin Chapter are co-hosting a two-day wetlands event on January 31 and February 1, 2002, “Wetlands: Programs, Policies and Science.” SWCS has planned its annual meeting and program — “Navigating the Regulatory Maze to Wetland Restoration” — to complement WWA’s annual science forum, “A Watershed in Wetland Restoration.” The SWCS program highlights key personnel from state and federal agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service discussing wetland regulations. Featured speakers for the WWA forum include Professor Joy Zedler, the Aldo Leopold Chair of Restoration Ecology (University of Wisconsin-Madison), and other scientists and practitioners from throughout the Midwest. The forum will be held at the Holiday Inn, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. For more information and a registration form, please visit the WWA’s website: www.wiscwetlands.org or contact us at: forum@wiscwetlands.org or (608)-250-9971.

National River Cleanup Week is May 11-18, 2002. National River Cleanup Week was founded in 1992 to assist local groups in keeping America’s waterways clean. For years, rivers and watersheds have been used as dumps for old applicances, litter, plastic, and other trash. If your organization wishes to participation in NRCW, call 1-865-558-3595 or visit their website for more info: www.americaoutdoors.org/nrcw
