Sewage in Our Streams

On January 19, 2001, Improving Kids’ Environment hosted a “Sewage in Our Streams” Conference. The goal of the conference was to discuss the public health implications of combined sewer overflows and failing septic systems.

More than 160 people, including 70 citizen activists, attended the conference at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. Thanks to funding from the City of Indianapolis and Eli Lilly and Company, the registration fee was waived for citizen activists.

A summary of the conference is available at www.ikecoalition.org. The conference materials included a list of viruses, bacteria, and parasites that are commonly found in sewage that pose severe threats to public health. If you need a hard copy of the conference materials, contact Tom Neltner at 317-442-3973 or neltner@in.net.
